Acknowledgements

Over the four decades since I became a pharmacologist, my appreciation of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics has grown as a result of discussions with many individuals, and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to benefit from their wisdom. In particular, I wish to acknowledge the late Professor Ian Stevenson and Dr. Geoffrey Lyles (University of Dundee), Dr. Brian Callingham, the late Dr. Dennis Sharman and Dr. Graeme Henderson (University of Cambridge), Professor Keith Tipton (Trinity College, Dublin), Dr. Rona Ramsay (University of St. Andrews), Dr. Glen Baker, Dr. Ian Martin, Dr. Sandy Clanachan, the late Dr. Susan Dunn and Dr. Ines Zuna (University of Alberta), Dr. Terry Kenakin (University of North Carolina), and Dr. David Colquhoun (University College, London).

I am grateful to Dr. Tracey Hillier and Dr. Tim Winton for the opportunity to contribute to medical student teaching at the University of Alberta, and for the faith they have shown in my approach.

I am thankful for the support of the staff of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, University of Alberta, during my efforts to develop novel approaches for teaching pharmacokinetics, particularly Graeme Pate and Jason Hardwick for advice on creating animations in Keynote. I also appreciate the assistance of the staff of the Open Publishing and Digitalization Services at University of Alberta Libraries in the creation and publication of this eBook.

Finally, I thank my wife and family for their support and patience which, for the most part, remained resolute as this project dragged on far longer than I promised that it would.
