The description of Sociology 2410, Sociology of Gender, as it appears in the Undergraduate Calendar is as follows: “An introduction to sociological perspectives on gender, focusing on the social construction of gendered bodies, subjectivities, desires, sexuality through social interaction, and institutions. Comparative and historical perspectives on gender as foundational to operations of power in western societies.” The piece published here was written by Tegan Makowsky for Sociology of Gender in Fall 2023, and provides an application of West and Zimmerman’s concept of “Doing Gender.”
