The Hydrosphere

Sunrise over Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. JWF Waldron CC BY-SA-NC

In this section we look at many aspects of water on the planet Earth. After an introduction to the unusual properties of water, we describe water on the land surface, in lakes and rivers, and how it shapes the landscape. Next, we examine groundwater— water that exists in pore spaces within the Geosphere. Then, we look at the world of ice, the Cryosphere. Finally, we come back to the largest reservoir of water on the Earth’s surface, the seas and oceans.
